Wonder of Science Essay In English
Our century is the century of science. Most dazzeling indeed is the picture of scientific progress. In every field it has worked wonder after wonder. In every aspect of human life it is making its progress by leaps and bounds. It has brought a new civilization with its wonderful discoveries and inventions.
Take our day-to-day needs like food, clothing and health. Science has made wonders there. Electricity with its wonderful applications has illuminated human life. The new fertilizes like sulphates, phosphate, urea and others have helped to reap abundant crops. New powerful insecticides and pesticides have helped to save the crops from ruin.
The dam-technology and various systems of irregation help to provide enough water to growing crops. The food preservatives have stepped in our house and are in regular use. In clothing science has given alternatives to the natural threads like wool, cotton and silk. It has discovered new colours for colouring the suiting and shinting. The clothes made from these artificial
threads are light in weight and easy to wash. People prefer to wear them. The plastic polymers have made a revolution. The attractive plastic commodities like colourful bags and baskets, buckets, table cloths, pots and other plastic-ware have become part and parcel of our life.
They have proved to be an alternative to many metallic devices. Plasticware is useful in industry also, like huge cylinders, containers etc. In the field of health and medicine science has made tremendous progress.
Wonderful drugs and antibiotics like penicillin, streptomycin and others are miraculous cures for many cronic or incurable disease. Take just one pill and the pain disappears. Take one injection and the fever runs away. Various surgical instruments and medical devices are help for painless operations. The surgeries taking the time of hours together can be done within a few minutes.
The vaccines like B.C.G, polio doses have saved human beings from falling prey to deadly epidemics and becoming crippled. The x-rays, laser rays and sonar rays can now display the internal structure of human body on the screen. It can display tumors and ulcers.
During pregnancy itself a mother can know whether her baby is a son or a daughter, whether it is normal or not. Really, this progress of science is a boon to humanity. It can now lead a happy and longer life. Science has saved human life from boredom.
It has given birth to that wonder-baby - the television which entertains us at all the times. There is cineama, there is gramophone, radio and the cassette recorders. There are refrigerators, washing machines and other comforts also.
Through telephones, pagers the communication is made easy. Science has brought the world closer. For travels and tours there are aeroplanes and super-fast trains, ship and a variety of cosy cars. With the amazing progress in science man has reached other planets. The satellites and powerful cameras bring the pictures of the universe to the earth.
Computor is still another discovery which has brought in a new era. It's an age of computors. What can they not do? They can do calculations, they can give decisions, they can handle machines, they can print and what not within a second. We are really dumb with wonder to see a computor working.
Atomic energy is a capable alternative for electricity and energy from other natural resources like wood and coal. It can do miracles. It can run mills from great industrial and technological establishments. Atomic explosions can be used to dig mines.
It is said that 'wonders will never cease.' Countless are the wonderful discoveries of science. It has changed the very face of our planet. It has changed the comfortable and prosperous life of man. But science is a two sided coin.
Its other side is devastating, dark, threatening and gloomy. There are deadly weapons and atom bombs. But we cannot blame science for its woeful aspects. Science is a power which is blind and has no own preferences. Everything depends upon the user. Foolishly used, it will make hell of the earth, wisely used, Heaven is not far.
