Essay on Value of discipline
Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die.' These famous lines from the poem 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' by Lord Tennyson emphasize the importance of discipline in the army.
However, discipline is necessary not only in the army but in every organization, in every walk of life, in every activity. In order to understand why discipline is necessary, we must first understand what discipline actually means. Strict obedience to the required rules for any work or activity is called discipline.
Generally, adults realise the value of discipline. They know that one has to exercise self-control, obey rules. But children do not realise these things. They have to be made to understand the value of discipline; they must be taught to obey their teachers and elders.
Discipline is needed in every sphere of life. Though it may appear to be unpleasant, it is in fact, of great advantage to us in the long run. It makes life easier for us. Freedom becomes more meaningful only when there is discipline.
If we look into the lives of great people, whether it be a Prime Minister or a famous singer, we will notice that discipline has played a very important part in their success. Famous sportsmen are disciplined in matters of exercise and training.
Thus, discipline is the very foundation on which success in any sphere of life is based. It is as much necessary to a nation as to an individual. A nation will progress only if its citizens lead disciplined lives.
