Essay on A Road Accidents i witnesse
It was Saturday afternoon. I was returning home from college with my friends. At the crossroads near our college, as we were waiting for the green signal at the zebra crossing, a cyclist suddenly came whizzing by.
Before we knew what was happening, he dashed against a taxi coming from the other side. The cyclist was thrown off on the road, with his cycle smashed out of shape. The taxi driver had swerved in order to avoid the cyclist, and his taxi had jumped the divider before coming to a halt.
People began rushing towards the site of the accident. My friends and I rushed there too. It was an awful sight. We glanced at the people involved in the accident, and realized, with a sense of relief, that no one was seriously injured.
There was blood all over the cyclist's shirt due to the deep cut just above his left eyebrow. He was too shocked to speak. The taxi driver and his passengers also seemed stunned.Meanwhile, strong arms lifted the cyclist up and a group of people helped the passengers in the taxi to come out.
It was only then that a traffic policeman arrived. He began taking down statements from the cyclist, the taxi driver and the passengers. Some of us were also questioned. Someone had called an ambulance, and the cyclist was taken to hospital.
The taxi driver was allowed to go with the instruction that he would have to attend court, when summoned. Everyone present was of the opinion that it had been the cyclist's fault. But as no one was seriously injured, and the taxi was not damaged, the taxi driver felt that he would allow the matter to drop.
We went to the bus stop to wait for our bus. I had learnt a great lesson that day-never to ride a bicycle recklessly, but always to be careful and alert.
