Essay on Secularism
India has announced itself as a secular nation. That has been declared in our national constitution. Most of the nations in the world have accepted the religion which already was accepted. worshipped or followed by majority of the population of that particular nation.
For example, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia and all Arab countries are 'Muslim' countries. Most of the European countries, America, Australia are 'Christian' countries. China, Myanmar, Cylon are 'Buddhist' countries. These are the countries.
where in that particular religion is given special status and those religious rites are followed or worshipped officially. India is a nation where though Hindus are in majority, other religions like Muslim, Buddha, Shikh, Jain, Christian are also worshipped by a number of people.
Everybody has a right to follow his or her religious belief. There is no discrimination based on castes, creed or religion. To maintain religious harmony India announced equal faith and equal status for all religions India does not have any national religion and hence India is known as a secular nation where in all religions are weighed and respected equal.
In India religion is considered as a personal matter. Indians have the liberty to follow whatever religion they feel holy. They are at liberty to worship idols of their choice. This is really a unique and exceptional liberty the Indian constitution has offered to its citizens.
At the same time the constitution expects everyone to be proud of being Indian whatsoever religion one belongs to. Indian constitution was written on the background of partition of the nation. The dreadful incidence of partition resulted in riots and slaughtering of different groups of different religions.
There were assaults and massacre of children, men and women. This all took place under the false coverage of religion. And this prompted constitution committee to impress on the people that all religions are pious and are to be respected equal.
Thus, India came out as a secular nation. Hope this message bridges the gap, indifference between any two religions. We should imbibe the lessons of secularism right from the childhood. It's an important part of moral education. We can prosper and develop only if we follow the path of secularism.
